Cerebral Palsy causes, diagnosis
Cerebral Palsy is a curse to children. These children cannot play like other children. They cannot talk properly. Doctors are saying that parents are the main reason for this problem in children. Not taking nutritious food during pregnancy, not undergoing ultra sound tests etc are the causes for birth of children with brain defects. Precautions should be taken by parents to avoid these problems and give birth to a healthy infant.
Brain of infants should be developed as the time passes. The brain should completely develop in the first three months and only then the infants can grasp everything around them. They can also grow healthily. During this stage if there is any infection in the brain the damage can be permanent. Infants whose brain does not develop properly lag behind in learning new thing. They cannot learn new things due to learning disability. This condition is called mental retardation. In some children brain development will be slow and in some it stops completely. In some children physical development also will be slow along with mental development. This problem is due to congenital nervous and muscle diseases. This is called Cerebral Palsy. This occurs due to problems during delivery. With this problem, the children cannot move, muscles become stiff and they walk very slowly.
Reasons for Cerebral Palsy in children
Due to diseases like Meningitis and Encephalitis brain development will stop. If a child suffers from brain fever immediate treatment should be provided to them otherwise it may lead to Cerebral Palsy. This problem may also occur when the mother uses medicines for fits during pregnancy. Infections may also be one of the reasons for this.
When delivery of baby becomes difficult, brain of infant will not receive sufficient Oxygen leading to problem in brain. Brain development will not be proper in pre mature babies. This problem may also arise due to defects in Chromosomes.
Diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy in infants
Development of infant can be identified with ultra sound scanning during pregnancy. Amniotic fluid test helps to identify the problems in infant growth. Chromosome test will also be helpful. Cord blood test can also be done to diagnose Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral Palsy treatment
If ultra sound scanning during pregnancy confirms that there are problems in the development of brain of infants, proper treatment can be started immediately. In some infants water enters brain in the fetus stage itself. Surgery can be done to the pregnant woman to remove water from the brain of the fetus. If mother is suffering from fits, she should take treatment to avoid fits during pregnancy. Brain nerves of fetus may damage if mother gets fits. If one baby is born with Cerebral Palsy, proper care should be taken to give birth to a healthy child in second pregnancy. Cerebral palsy can be cured to some extent using medicines. If no treatment is of any help to the child, it should be joined in a rehabilitation center where training is given to the child to do his own work.
Prevention of Cerebral Palsy
Taking precautions is the best way to prevent Cerebral Palsy. Taking nutritious food, undergoing ultra sound tests during pregnancy are very important. Pregnant woman should take Riboflavin and Folic acid tablets. Plan the delivery to be under the supervision of expert doctors to avoid problems. If these precautions are taken mother can give birth to a healthy baby.
